Three Wines from the Vaimaki Family (Macedonia) This Thurs. Jan. 27th 5:30-8 PM

“Vaimaki Family” is the urban winemaking project of oenologist Vasilis Vaimakis. An oenologist with vast winemaking experience, Vaimakis is also one of the first oenologists of Greece who explored the limits of natural vinification of Greek grapes with zero sulfites. Although Eklektikon’s portfolio is centered around growers, Vaimaki Family is the only exception to the rule, in order to represent the first Greek vintages of no-added-sulfite wines, under the iconic and ever-changing label “Mater Natura”. Vaimaki Family - Aperos Gaea Pet Nat 2020 Amyndeo (or “Amyntaio”) constitutes one of the most alpine climates of Greece, surrounded by lakes and at an altitude of over 600m. Hild Elbling Sekt Brut #52 NV “Matthias Hild farms 5 hectares in the upper Mosel doing something that makes almost zero financial sense: saving old, terraced parcels of Elbling. In this area, however, it’s important to understand Elbling is something of a religion. It’s a culture, a regional dialect that is spoken through this wine of rigorous purity, of joyous simplicity, of toothsome acidity...The comparisons are plenty, though none of them are quite right;if Riesling is Pinot Noir, then Elbling is Gamay. If Riesling is Chenin Blanc, then Elbling is Muscadet. You get the idea. The joy of Elbling is its raucous acidity, its vigor and energy, the fact that it is so low in alcohol you could probably drink...

Alberici Lambrusco dell'Emilia La Fogarina Once thought to be extinct, this is 100% Fogarina from 60-year-old vines. Hand-harvested and organic. Frizzante (sparkling) and dry. The red and black flag on the Fogarina label are the colors of Italian anarchists, a dedication to the memory of family friend Luigi Veronelli, who encouraged Amilcare Alberici to produce La Fogarina. This abandoned vineyard was brought back to life by Alberici and his cousin. Pair with Duck confit and cherry balsamic glaze, Korean BBQ, cheeeeese boards with mortadella and Taleggio!
