If you aren’t familiar with Corsica, the main event is Patrimonio. This AOC covers 400ha with half of them being owned by the two largest producers, and the other half split up amongst 30 smaller growers. If you haven’t already guessed, Clos Marfisi is part of the latter. Brother and sister, Mathieu and Julie are fifth generation at the helm of this estate, having taken over from their father, Touissant, when Julie returned in 2001, and her brother in 2012, from having careers elsewhere in France.

estate only grows the local varietals and has never used pesticides or herbicides

soil is silt and clay atop limestone, west and south facing, steep slopes, 40-50 year old vines

White yields were low in 2022 so it made sense to make a blanc de noir.

white from red! tangerine peel, strawberries, medium to fuller bodied, creamy mid-palate, slightly nutty finish, dry, gentle barely-there tannins

region: Corscia, France

varietal:  Nielluciu (Sangiovese)

style: blanc de noir

farming/cellar: certified organic, Grapes crushed by gravity, no pressing. Settling in the cold for 24 hours and then fermented with native yeasts. Aged for 10 months in tank, bottled without filtering. Minimal so2.

pairing: Aziminu seafood stew - red mullet, sea bream, and scorpion fish, which are stewed with bay leaves, saffron, fennel, and pastis (an anise-flavored spirit).
