One of the first Burgundian domains to estate bottle their wines after the current Marquis’ grandfather, Sem d’Angerville, stood up to the negociants’ corrupt blending practices in the 1920s. D'Angerville's parcels in Volnay touch all of the village’s great terroirs. They own 2 parcels in Champans totaling 3.98ha (a quite large 1er Cru stake) with southeast-facing exposures.

"En Champans" is one of the most highly regarded vineyards of Volnay. This steeply sloped terroir is very calcareous with a light brown soil and sits at the highest end of the parcel. Toward the bottom, the terroir is more clay-driven with earth that alternates between brown and red.

"Champans" comes from the combination of two words, "champ" or "field" and "pans", which means "slope". Historically classed among the "Têtes de Cuvées" of Volnay, the "Champans" is the archetype of great Volnay.

Ample medium bodied palate, structured, muscular, outgoing, high class. Aromas of underbrush, red and black berries, violets and roses, clove spice. Long finish of red fruit, spice, & minerality. The d'Angerville name is synonymous with meticulous and minimalist winemaking to the extreme. A magical and deep effort that will reward a decade (or more) in your cellar - but can be enjoyed now with 6 hours in the decanter.
