Schloss Gobelsburg - Riesling Ried Gaisberg Erste Lage 2021 750ml (13.5% ABV)
Grand Cru dry Riesling from one of Austria's top producers and top vineyards
we only got 3 bottles
Ried Gaisberg belongs to three villages (Kammern, Zöbing, and Strass) and is situated just east of Heiligenstein. Geologically, this most eastern part of the Gföhler gneiss plate is marked by slaty para-gneiss, amphibolite and mica. Some parts of the Riesling terraces contain the oldest vineyards of the estate.

richly textural, but only medium-bodied, Gaisberg dry riesling has an exciting thread of flinty minerality woven into it. Delicate stone fruit aromas in the nose, but at the finish candied orange peel mingles with the stony character and leesy complexity. Made for the long term. Sustainable. Drink or hold.

Ried Gaisberg is on gneiss, schist and amphibolite. Crushed ivy and citrus leaf overlay an almost savory, salty notion of wet earth. The palate is rounded and juicy—almost bouncy with lively energy. Bright, lemon-fringed stone fruit notes skip away in such a joyful fashion that the underlying stony seriousness is almost skipped over. In coming years, the stoniness will gain the upper hand, but, for now, the playfulness of these aromas—leafy top notes and citric charm—quite rightly enjoy the limelight. This is lovely and slender, with a serious, stony, cool core and a beautifully long finish. (Bone-dry)
