With aromas of green apple and grapefruit zest, this wine is perhaps our most ‘serious’ Riesling of the lineup this year. The palate is focused with lively flavors of melon and nectarine, balanced by a long, textured finish. With the most limestone soils, this wine expresses great minerality and electric acidity.

Viva vineyard was planted in 2015 on a warm site protected by a nearby cove, nearly 100 feet from the shore of northwest Seneca Lake. The soil is a lake-deposited sediment rich in clay, overlying glacially tilled limestone and shale. The vines are farmed with organic practices with a goal of taking care of the rich biodiversity and majestic nearby waters.

Farmed using sustainable, organic and regenerative methods

The 2024 vintage will be remembered as one of the most exceptional years of farming in the Finger Lakes.

They were gently whole-cluster pressed over a six-hour cycle, with the juice settling overnight before being racked into stainless steel. The fermentation was initiated with a pied de cuve and native yeast, allowing for a slow, cool fermentation.

The wine then aged on its lees for six months in stainless steel, with occasional stirring.

Ria’s Wines was established in 2022 by Ria D’Aversa and Mike Penn and is located on the banks of Seneca Lake
Ria and Mike’s bring a wealth of expertise from wine regions around the world.  Ria’s background in viticulture and organic farming are perfectly suited to the climate of the Finger Lakes, while Mike’s winemaking experience includes stints in France, Italy, New Zealand and most recently, California.  Ria is also a professor at Cornell University’s School of Viticulture.
Ria’s estate vineyard vineyard is planted to vines that are up to forty years old with varieties like Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Lemberger, Chardonnay, Cayuga and Baco Noir
Ria and Mike strive for transparency in their wines to allow the terroir of the vineyard to come singing through. As such, winemaking at Ria’s is done with what they refer to as “thoughtful gestures” that incorporate spontaneous fermentations, minimal use of new oak, no fining and no additions besides small doses of sulfur
