Ravines - Argetsinger Vineyard Dry Riesling Finger Lakes 2019 750ml (12.5% ABV)
Argetsinger is essentially a 1er cru site when it comes to Finger Lakes Riesling: old vines, sloping limestone soil, an ideal microclimate on the southeastern edge of Seneca Lake.
The critics (and more importantly us) are raving about this delicious dry Riesling from Ravines, with a few hailing it as America's preeminent Riesling / one of the finest examples from the new world. 96 points from Decanter, 94 from Wine and Spirits, 93 from James Suckling, on and on....
Ravines follows a strict practicing organic/sustainability program which entails:
• no use of herbicides,
• no use of insecticides or other restricted materials,
• improved soil management with erosion control (cover crops), and
• limited use of organic nutrients only; putting back only what the vines remove.
Their vineyard practices remain non-dogmatic, reflecting the fact that they work in a wine region with humid summers and substantial disease pressure. Their primary responsibility is the production of sound grapes that reflect their vineyard origins while maintaining good land stewardship practices.
Ravines is one of the 2022 Pilot members of Cornell’s re-established Sustainable Winegrowing Certification Program for New York State and the “Vinebalance 2022” program.
nose of citrus, white flowers, and that unmistakable combo of petrol + flinty minerality that will have you guessing Mosel, palate loaded with juicy stone fruit (nectarine, peach) up front, a textural & broad medium bodied palate, perfectly balanced with a mouthwatering crisp finish laced with more wet rock minerals. a powerful and impressive domestic Riesling that is drinking wonderfully now but can be cellared for another 10 years.
