Forge Cellars - Railroad Vineyard DRY Riesling Seneca Lake 2022 750ml (12.5% abv)
WINE CLUB SELECTION - JUNE 2025
stunning golden hue, lime popsicle, petrol, crushed slate, hint of roundness in the midpalate, cleaning acidity, very classic expression of one of our fav varietals that will have your blind tasting group guessing Germany.
Forge Cellars is made up of friends with a common goal: to grow grapes and handcraft wines of interest and value that perfectly balance minerality, aromatics and fruit to reflect the exceptional terroir of southeast Seneca Lake. Each vintage is viewed as an opportunity to express our region — to reflect its soils, cool climate, and diverse terroir. LOUIS BARRUOL Winemaker, Visionary - Louis comes from a winemaking tradition of 14 generations. His family has been located at their historic property in the village of Gigondas in the Southern Rhone Valley of France since 1570. Louis grew up among the vines and took over the estate from his dad in 1992, proceeding to improve quality and grow a vigneron-negociant arm of the business. Chateau de St. Cosme is now regarded as the benchmark of wine quality in Gigondas.
-----------
Often, we use the juxtaposition of our Railroad and Willow sites to demonstrate the power of terroir and the complexity of the soils in a very small distance. Located with less than a half mile span between them, the soils at Willow are finer and sandier than Railroad, whose soils are heavier and dense, dominated by gravelly loam. Both wines are farmed in the same way and treated equally in the cellar, yet what a contrast in the glass. The terroir of Railroad tends to give Riesling power, richness, and texture. It resembles the same sort of locomotion carried through the site in the days of the Lehigh Valley Railroad.

2022 Railroad Vineyard Dry Riesling - 93 POINTS (Billy Norris, Vinous)
“Brighter and more resonant than the other wines in the lineup. It shares the same breadth and sweet candied citrus weight as the others but offers an extra measure of calibrated saline-leaning acidity.”
