Chateau de Pibarnon - Bandol Rosé 2023 750ml (13.5% ABV)
Pibarnon sets the standard in Bandol and sits atop the highest point in a protected amphitheater with its own microclimate, allowing the native Mouvèdre a long growing season. The terraced vineyard faces the sea on the top of a hill that reaches 300m, forming a great natural south-east-facing bowl. The soil is made of clay, limestone and white chalk. Catherine and Henri de Saint Victor purchased Pibarnon in the late 1970s when the area was a mere backwater. Thirty years later this estate is held in the highest esteem.
a rare ageworthy rose, bold aromas of white pepper, spice, lavender, blood orange, wild red berries. medium to fuller bodied, gentle tannin, licorice, mouthwatering acidity, bone dry finish with mouth-tingling minerality
The vineyard overlooks the sea and is situated on dry stone wall terraces up to 300 metres above sea level, which form a large crater. This special location, as well as the bold blend of grape varieties, is what gives this rosé its personality, complexity and elegance.

93 pts. powerful, classy Rosé that delivers the proverbial "iron fist in a velvet glove." Deep and rich, the 2023 takes its time in the glass, gradually unfurling layers of waxy cherry fruit, Mediterranean herbs, raspberry liqueur, sous bois, crushed oyster shell and dried apricot. There's an impressive phenolic core and a wealth of complexity here, not to mention a long, long finish. This is a very serious wine with the stuffing to improve in the cellar."
