Beautiful Cali Syrah from one of our fav woman winemakers.
A new world take on Cote Rotie, as this Syrah adds a splash of white (Viognier).
Viognier is from an adjacent block that was mistakenly planted in 1998 due to a nursery misidentification (adding in a little white juice adds verve and acidity, and also somehow darkens the wine's overall color?)
Syrah block planted in 1983 on red volcanic loam soil atop Bradford Mtn and farmed by the Hambrecht family for 4 generations.
Brooding, darker tones of charred earth, brambly black forest berries, dark chocolate, black pepper, smoky olive tapenade, game, medium bodied with fine tannins, decant or cellar for a few years.
