Torre Mora - Etna Rosato Scalunera D.O.C. 2024 750ML (12.5% ABV)
,When Mario Piccini stepped onto the Torre Mora estate in Sicily in 2016, he fell in love. His family has deep roots and 140 years of winemaking experience in Tuscany, and yet Sicily, specifically Mount Etna, filled him with excitement and inspiration. With some luck, he rented, renovated, and then purchased 15 hectares of the Torre Mora farm in Rovittello. The vineyards, farmed organically since 2016, lie between 600 to 750 meters above sea level on the northern slopes of Etna. The soil, loose, black volcanic ash, imbues these wines with character, while the winemaking objective is simply to transmit the terroir without obfuscation. Total production is about 5000 cases per year,
- 100% Nerello Mascalese
- Elevation: 700 meters above sea level
- Hand-harvested in mid-September; grapes undergo a short maceration on the skins for a few hours
- Soft pressing and controlled temperature fermentation for 15 days
- The wine is subsequently aged on lees for 3 months
- 1,500 cases produced annually
pale pink wine has fragrant notes of watermelon and fresh flowers. It,s fresh, primary and fruity, with a light to medium body, but it,s persistent and flavorful. From organically grown grapes.
fabulous ... a fantastic example of a top rosato from the slopes of what is the world's most active volcano and currently Italy's most exciting wine region. It opens with heady aromas of wild red berry, boysenberry Mediterranean scrub and dog rose while the tangy, elegant and savory palate features juicy strawberry, crushed raspberry, blood orange and fennel seed before closing on a saline tang. Bright acidity keeps it lifted and energized.
