Macari - DOS AGUAS North Fork Long Island 2020 750ml (13% abv)
One of the only estates on Long Island to practice biodynamic farming; extremely labor-intensive in this cool- wet maritime climate.
Dos Aguas is the winery’s red Bordeaux blend, mostly Merlot with roughly equal portions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged for 26 months in French oak (only 24% new) Elegant in the mid-palate, this is a pleasing Bordeaux blend that has freshness, some complexity and a serious feel to it. It retains its balance, an admirable new world Cru Bourgeois, suave, showing a touch of bottle maturity.
“Our ”Dos Aguas” blend represents the ”two waters” that surround our vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island. To the south of our vines lies the Great Peconic Bay and to the north, the Long Island Sound. These two bodies of water create a unique growing climate and encourage a slow, steady ripening.
Macari produces some of the finest grapes grown on Long Island, thanks to the family's devotion to truly sustainable hands-on viticulture. Joseph Jr. and Alexandra Macari planted the family vineyard in 1995, and after Joseph Jr. studied with some of the great names in biodynamic viticulture he began holistic management of the property, complete with cattle and a whole field devoted to compost. Now in the third generation, the next Joseph Jr. has succeeded as Vineyard Manager, his sister Gabriella is Director of Operations, and worldwide vine veteran Byron Elmendorf has taken charge of the cellar.
