Villa Tolnay - GV Gruner Veltliner 2023 750ml (12.5% abv)
Villa Tolnay is located at the foot of the volcanic Csobánc hill, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton in western Hungary. The ancient volcanic soils and primeval sediments of the former Pannonian Sea give the wines an unmistakably volcanic expression, with distinctive minerality and vibrant acidity.
The Zöldveltelini GV (Grüner Veltliner) has grapes from the whole Villa Tolnay estate. The resulting wine is deep and complex. It was spontaneously fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel (80%) and 750L Stockinger oak barrels (20%). The wine remained on the lees for two months, and then aged for an additional 7 months. It has flavors like grapefruit and fresh quince, green apple, salt and white pepper on the nose and palate.
Wine Enthusiast: “This wine has a bouquet of cantaloupe, Golden Delicious apple and freshly ground white pepper. It has a bright, almost effervescent quality and a nice mélange of stone fruit, floral and light baking spice flavors. The bright finish offers equal parts ripe peach and orange blossom.” (91 Points)
