Classification: Colli Piacentini DOC

Grape Varieties: 60% Malvasia di Candia, 15% Marsanne, 15% Ortrugo, 10% Trebbiano

Soils: Marl, sand and silt Elevation: 300 meters Years of Planting: 1980 and 2010

Location: The village of Diolo is located in the Municipality of Lugagnano Val d'Arda, in the province of Piacenza, in the region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

Vinification: Grapes were harvested in September by hand into small crates, direct pressing of the whole bunch, spontaneous fermentation with pied de cuveé in stainless steel and cement tanks, then transferred to bottles to complete fermentation. This “metodo ancestrale” involves only one fermentation. The wine is moved from vat into individual bottles while it is still fermenting, and then sealed, resulting in a lightly sparkling or frizzante wine.

About Monterosso Val D’Arda: Colli Piacentini Monterosso Val d'Arda wines are those made under the Colli Piacentini DOC of northern Italy in the hills 20 kilometers south of Piacenza town and the river Po. The wines are exclusively white, but may be still or sparkling in both foaming spumante and the lighter, semi-sparkling frizzante forms. They are made from a blend of Malvasia di Candia, Moscato Bianco, Trebbiano, Ortrugo, Marsanne and Roussanne, the latter two of which were imported into the area in the Napoleonic era.

About the Region: The Colli Piacentini ("Hills of Piacenza") is an Italian wine region located at the western end of Emilia-Romagna. In 1967, it was given the Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC) quality designation. Within its boundaries are several smaller DOCs including Gutturnio DOC, Monterosso Val D'Arda DOC, and Ortrugo DOC. The region has a long history of winemaking with fossilized vine roots and grape seeds excavated from the region showing viticulture taking place as early as 2000 BC
