Trio of New Affordable Gems from Polaner Selections! (THU. APRIL 14th) 6pm-8pm

We hope you can join us in-store on Thursday April 14th as we welcome Polaner with three amazing values, and each is a new favorite at the shop! We begin with a classic Vermentino from Italy before moving to California with an unoaked Chardonnay, and finally we return to Italy with a very solid Sangiovese. Our weekly tastings are always free and very casual - just pop in between 6pm and 8pm to try some great wine.

Il Torchio - Vermentino Il Bianco 2020 750ml (12% ABV)

Beautiful and complex Vermentino from brother & sister team Eduardo & Gilda (the family's 3rd generation) who are committed to natural winemaking and organic viticulture at this historic estate (their grandfather was a legendary grower in the Colli di Luni appellation). The "Il Bianco" is sourced from estate vineyards near the bottom of a hill with clay soil (vines are 15 years old). This 12 hectare estate (9 of which are planted to vine) is unique for the region in that it is one large contiguous parcel rather than many small parcels. Very short skin contact (18-20 hours) fermented & briefly matured in stainless steel.
They also use an olive press device to push the fruit through.

A subtle, dry, versatile white wine with a lively nose, yellow straw color, and notes of gooseberries, a tinge of petrol, and sexy, silky minerality. Focused, elegant and crisp, balanced by a slightly broader texture and expressive, fruit-forward aromatics. The Il Torchio bottling ups the ante with more stuffing, great concentration and a core of stony/salty minerality reminiscent of a great Chablis. It can certainly hold its own on any table alongside the greatest whites Italy has to offer.
Foxglove - Central Coast Chardonnay (2018) 750mL (13.6% ABV)

Lively nose, Tropical fruit, tart, pineapple rind, herbaceous, eucalyptus essence. Very clean profile - delicious on its own but also super versatile with food.

Foxglove has become one of the great value labels made in California. 79.5% sourced from rolling hills in Los Alamos in Santa Barbara County, 11% Greenfield Monterey County, and 9.5% Paso Robles. The soil is a sandy loam in Santa Barbara, and loam in San Luis Obispo and Monterey.
Vinified entirely in stainless steel - lees stirred, no oak, no malo-lactic fermentation.

Podere La Berta - Sangiovese di Romagna Berta (2020) 750mL (13% ABV)

This 100% Sangiovese is a nice juicy Italian red with notes of ripe cranberries, roasted tomatoes, red peppers, herbs and bloody gravel. Good acidity, exquisite balance, salinity, present tannins. Sourced from estate vineyards in Brisighella with ideal soil of clay, marine deposit, and marl.

Organic, hand harvested, fermented and matured in steel (no oak!) for 3-4 months What a great buy!
