Herrera-Alvarado, Rojo Loco
Moscatel Rosado, Moscatel Amarilla, Pais and Cristal varietals from organically farmed centenarian vines in the town of Colliguay on the edge of the Marga Marga Valley, Chile. This remote area is drier and higher in elevation than most of Arturo & Carolina's sites, at 850m above sea level. The grapes are de-stemmed with zaranda, then co-fermented for 5 days with their skins in wood vats without temperature control. then pressed for the rest of 1 year in old barrels. Bottled without fining or filtering or added SO2.
Tasting notes: Yummy, pressed watermelon, funky nose, vegetal, brambly, pomegranate on the silky palate, light and tart chalky finish.
Carolina & Arturo built their cellar themselves in the adobe style out of clay from their own vineyards and employ traditional practices like fermenting in cow leather in their winemaking. There is no electricity in the cellar and everything is done by hand.
