Good balance, vibrant red fruits, silky, subtle spicey Grenache Carignan blend. Very restrained take on Montsant.
Info from Jose Pastor selections:
90% Grenache, 10% Carignan. The grapes for Sileo come from 5 select organically-farmed vineyards around Cornudella de Montsant planted on calcareous clay soils.
The grapes are harvested by hand and ferment (30% unstemmed) with ambient yeast and age for nine months in a mix of used 500L French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. Bottled unfiltered.
The area ... where Companyia Vitícola Sileo is based is among the highest in elevation and the most varied in soil types in Montsant. Here, at the meeting point of the Prades and Montsant mountains, one finds old vines on steep slopes of calcareous clay and racorell slate. These nutrient-poor and well-drained soils have been recognized as exemplary places for the planting of vines for hundreds of years and the Carthusians and others planted the mountains with Grenache and Carignan.
