a new fav winter red from this family estate/farm located in the foothills of Oltrepo Pavese. 26 hectare farm with only 4 devoted to wine grapes. Elevation is 350m, farming is organic and biodynamic. This charming estate operates as a sort of farm-to-table inn, serving up their impressive wines alongside locally sourced ingredients.
the Sinodo is Barbera from a tiny .5 hectare plot of 19 year old vines. This plot has bush trained vines, is dry farmed, and soil is sand/clay/calcareous. Only 1000 bottles made annually.
Left Bank-esque nose of pipe tobacco, boysenberry, spicy cherry cola, black cherry, red rope licorice, dried figs, just enough grip, perfectly balanced between fruit, full body, secondary spice notes and a hint of an emerging tertiary quality (that which comes from bottle age and development). Warming, spicy finish.
