WINE CLUB SELECTION JUNE 2024

We love Fabio's wines (we also have his orange wine and, while it lasts, a rare orange magnum!).

We scooped up the last few cases from the importer for our Italian Summer wine club trio, do not delay, once this is gone we can't get more.

Grillo sourced from a single site in Contrada Spanuola – Marsala at the low coastal elevation of just 10 meters with an east / west exposure.

soil is stony/pebbles/gravelly

~6,000 btls (500 cases produced annually)

from the producer:

“where the water reflects the clouds and the Stagnone Islands mark the border between the sky and the sea…” A wine of remarkable elegance from carefully harvested and vinified indigenous grapes: the magical Grillo. With a deep yellow colour, a unique slightly salty taste and an aromatic nose with lovely hints of citrus and peach.

“Magico” Ariddu is a wine yielded from “grillo” vineyards close to the Marsala salt pans, where the water reflects the clouds and the Stagnone Islands mark the border between the sky and the sea. A territory which, following the principles of zoning, lends its particular characteristics to the wine, making it unmistakable...pleasantly fresh on the palate and can be ... paired with dishes based on (shell)fish or grilled vegetables."

Grillo is actually the paradigmatic variety of the region, although Fabio bottles it as a dry white wine, which is not the usual practice. Due to the hot conditions, the harvest takes place at the end of August. Grapes are vinified that hardly ever have problems with fungal diseases due to the extremely dry conditions and therefore do not require copper or sulphur in the vineyard.

crisp and salty, medium-plus bodied, orange blossom, citrus, Mediterranean herbs, chalky minerality, great backbone of bright acidity and salinity, juicy but remains refreshing & dry
