This top producer of Verdicchio has 15 hectares nestled in a cold and dry microclimate alongside the Esino River between the Appenine Mountains and the Adriatic. They have been farming organically since 1995. Fabio Marchionni is an expert on Verdicchio and has become a cult producer of Verdicchio di Matelica.
The Matelica zone is further inland and at a higher elevation than the more common Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi. Matelica wines tend to be brighter and more elegant. Collestefano is textbook for the Matelica style.
