Alfredo Maestro, is a Rock Star "Natural" winemaker practicing organic in Ribéro del Dúero, when I met him he definitely has passion and vigor of innovative natural winemaking techniques. A force to reckoned with at the moment and in the future.

He believes that a wine must reflect where it comes from. He eliminates the use of exogenous elements (i.e sulphur, acids, filters and stabilizers). According to Alfredo Maestro, he only really needs three elements to create a wine: the grapes, well-kept vines and healthy soils.

His winemaking laboratory in Peñefiel, a Medieval wine making hamlet complete with a Castle that Don Quioxte probably fought his ghosts at the gates of the moat right on the Ribéro del Dúero River which to my chagrin was very unassuming but the Castle is quite impressive and un-breached citadel.

Beautiful purple fruits, unctuous stewed stone fruit, salty, blood of the grape, brambly, powerful red wine, herbaceous nose with notes of raspberry and Amarena cherry. Nutty Chocolate covered pomegranate on the palate.

This is a medium-bodied wine with layers of juicy fruit and spice, meant to be drunk young when the wine is at its most youthful. Delicious with barbecued meats and grilled vegetables.

region: ribéra del dúero, spain

varietal: garnacha

style: crunchy red

farming & cellar: organic, the harvest is carried out manually. Once the grapes have arrived at the winery, they are incubated whole without being pressed or destemmed. The winemaking process begins with carbonic maceration, which is carried out in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts from the vineyards of the winery. The debourbage process is then carried out, followed by malolactic fermentation in the same tanks. Clarification and stabilization of the wine is done naturally. the wine is racked to eliminate possible impurities or solid residues.
