El Rey del Glam made in Castilla y León produced by the Alfredo Maestro.

Alfredo Maestro, is a Rock Star "Natural" winemaker practicing organic in Ribéro del Dúero, when I met him he definitely has passion and vigor of innovative natural winemaking techniques. A force to reconned with at the moment and in the future.

Alfredo Maestro is a winemaker who defies and challenges the norms when it comes to winemaking. He understands that a wine must reflect where it comes from. He therefore eliminates the use of exogenous elements (i.e sulphur, acids, filters and stabilizers). According to Alfredo Maestro, he only really needs three elements to create a wine: the grapes, well-kept vines and healthy soils.

His winemaking laboratory in Peñefiel, a Medieval wine making hamlet complete with a Castle that Don Quioxte probably fought his ghosts at the gates of the moat right on the Ribéro del Dúero River which to my chagrin was very unassuming but the Castle is quite impressive and un-breached citadel.

Beautiful purple fruits, unctuous stewed stone fruit, salty, blood of the grape, brambly, powerful red wine, herbaceous nose with notes of raspberry and Amarena cherry. Nutty Chocolate covered pomegranate on the palate.

varietal: Exclusively 100% Garnacha

The grapes come from two different estates owned by the winery: Navarrendondilla, situated in the province of Ávila 1,100 metres above sea level, and Peñafiel, closer to Valladolid, situated between 700 and 920 metres above sea level. The vineyards are home to granitic rock, sandy loam, clayey and limestone soils.

region: Ribéra del Dúero, Castilla y León, Spain

style: chewable red

The harvest is carried out manually. Once the grapes have arrived at the winery, they are incubated whole without being pressed or destemmed. The winemaking process begins with carbonic maceration, which is carried out in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts from the vineyards of the winery. The debourbage process is then carried out, followed by malolactic fermentation in the same tanks. Clarification and stabilization of the wine is done naturally. Before El Rey del Glam is bottled, the wine is racked to eliminate possible impurities or solid residues. Vegan certified.

El Rey del Glam is from two sources of Garnacha, one in Ribera del Duero at 700-920m and the other at 1,100m in the Sierra de Gredos mountains outside of Madrid. Grapes are hand-harvested, wild yeast fermented in steel vat whole cluster and without crushing (carbonic maceration), raised over winter in vat, and bottled in February without fining or filtration. This is a medium-bodied wine with layers of juicy fruit and spice, meant to be drunk young when the wine is at its most youthful. Delicious with barbecued meats and grilled vegetables.
